WHERE & HOW WE OPERATE (Important info below)

WHERE DOES NOVA OPERATE THEIR STARGAZING EXPERIENCES FROM?

Our stargazing sessions can be operated in a multitude of locations across the UK. The map shows some of the previous locations where we have run our experiences, since we began operating in 2022.

We include the first 50 miles of travel from CV37 9DA in the price of a stargazing experience and only require additional travel costs if your chosen location is further than 50 miles from this postcode. To find out about additional travel costs - click here

Recommended exclusion zones - Central city locations such as London (anywhere inside of the M25), Birmingham, Manchester or any other city centre. This is due to the heavy light pollution that greatly diminishes certain celestial objects, in particular deep sky objects. We always want to give our stargazers the best time not an average time.

Our stargazing experiences are suitable for anyone, either with prior knowledge in astronomy or not. Each stargazing experience focuses on something different about the universe, where you will be guided by our astronomer to see the most incredible sights through our large aperture telescopes that allow us to collect more light so we can see more distant objects in the night sky than the average back garden telescope. Our astronomers will explain about what you are seeing through the telescope so you get the big picture.

We will aim to capture some photos of the objects you observe through the telescope on the night of your stargazing experience.

The weather in the UK is unpredictable and constantly changing, so we don't confirm the go ahead until the morning of your booked date. If the forecasts are showing severely bad weather then we will let you know prior to the morning of the day.

We wait until the morning of the day as forecasts are typically the most accurate at this point and we'd rather not disappoint our customers by giving the go ahead too early.

5b. CLEAR SKIES AND GOOD TO GO!

Sadly this happens, after all we are in the UK (haha)

If the skies aren't clear/too cloudy on the evening you have booked then we simply find another suitable date and try again. We will do this until we have been able to complete your stargazing experience.

On average it takes 1-6 attempts to complete a stargazing experience due to the unpredictable UK weather conditions.

When you book your stargazing experience you can choose a time to suit you. Times for your chosen date will only be limited by hours of darkness and clear skies available (or if your booking involves observing specific objects).

(Please let us know if you have something in particular you want to observe and we will advise on the best time of year whether that's Jupiter, Saturn, Andromeda galaxy, Ring Nebula, Hercules Cluster, Bode's galxies, etc).

Welcome to the late nights and early mornings of an Astronomer.

SUITABLE LOCATIONS

Do Darker Skies Matter?

The image above shows the Bortle Scale and how light pollution affects the night sky. Darker skies are extremely important when viewing deep sky objects (DSOs) like galaxies, nebulae and star clusters. It's recommended to view these objects:

1. Away from light polluted areas (towns/cities).

2. Allow 20-30 mins for your eyes to become dark eye adapted away from any soruces of white light.

Even driving a few miles away from local dwellings will make all the difference. Head to www.gostargazing.co.uk and enter your postcode to find a dark sky spot near you.

We can research good locations that have darker skies but can't always guarantee they will be close to your home. If you're outside our normal radius (50 miles from CV37 9DA) we work hard to find a suitable spot that has dark skies but it may be a 30min-1hr drive from your home.

UNOBSTRUCTED VIEWING

When looking for a location with a good night sky view you need to think about a clear 360 degree view from the location you are considering. This is not always possible but the less obstructions, the better. Our image shows you a good location and a bad one.

If you are fortunate enough to have a garden / piece of land with an unobstructed view of the night sky and would like to do your stargazing experience at home, then please let us know.

LOCATIONS PERMISSIONS

If you have a location in mind that isn't on your property, then please make sure you have permission to use the site.

This is less of a consideration when it comes to public spaces such as parks, public green areas and other areas but some places still require permission to access the area.  If you would like us to help then please pass on the information of the location and we will  do our best to check this for you.

REFUND POLICY & ADDITIONAL INFO

REFUND POLICY & ADDITIONAL INFO

REFUND POLICY & ADDITIONAL INFO

  • REFUND POLICY: Gift experiences are NON-REFUNDABLE and expire 12 months from the time you receive the gift card in the post. That's 365 days or 8760 hours to get booked in.
  • REFUND POLICY: Direct bookings (non-gift card related) NOVA will only offer a refund once at least 6 unsuccessful attempts have been made to complete your stargazing experience as it does typically take 1-6 attempts to go stargazing due to poor weather. After your 6th unsuccessful attempt has been made, if you’d like a full refund then please contact us directly - novastargazinguk@gmail.com or 07490706911.

  • We require 15-20 mins either side of the time of your booking for equipment set-up. This doesn't impede on the time allocated for your experience. You will still get the total amount of time booked.

  • Included in the price of each booking is the cost of travel up to 50 miles from our base in Stratford-Upon-Avon, CV37 9DA. If you are looking to do your staragzing experience at a location that's further than 50 miles from this postcode then additional travel costs will apply. We also include space for up to 6 friends and family to attend your stargazing experience in the price. Additional people can join up to 12 in total and the prices for this are; £15 per adult or £10 per child (after 6 people (12 people max)

  • Do you have a group that's larger than 12 please? Contact us.

  • Full payment is required upfront for direct bookings and this secures your date with a booking confirmation sent out within 24hrs of payment being received. It is also required for gift experiences and your gift card will be posted once payment has been received. See above for our refund policy.

  • On the day of your stargazing experience we will confirm whether or not we can go ahead. However from time to time the forecast can let us down and so if you're experience is affected by unexpected cloud on the night and we haven't completed at least 75% of the allocated time then we will rearrange to do your experience again in order to complete it. i.e. We won't redo if:

1hr experience booked-45mins has elapsed

1.5hrs experience booked-1hr 5mins has elapsed

 2hrs experience booked-1.5hrs has elapsed.

  • We also offer other alternative payment methods including a pay monthly option. Please ask about this by contacting us.

VISUAL OBSERVING VS IMAGING

REFUND POLICY & ADDITIONAL INFO

REFUND POLICY & ADDITIONAL INFO

The images we see online, whether from the space based or large ground based telescopes are undoubtedly incredible, however there are a few things to consider about these images, compared to when observing these objects through a telescope:

Camera images (from telescopes) are long exposures, heavily edited, will have gathered light our eyes can't see (infrared and x-ray), are more sensitive to light than the human eye, some have been taken outside the disturbance of Earth's atmosphere and the equipment has been invested and developed for this specific purpose.

Viewing objects through a telescope is an incredible and mind blowing experience. It's the most natural, raw way you will see the planets, the moon, stars and anything else that resides amongst our cosmos. These sights are awe inspiring and we never know how it will effect people emotionally, some people cry, some people jump up and down and others have a smile from ear to ear.

Please bare in mind, although you will not see images quite like the Hubble image, however what you do see through the telescope will leave you astonished and you will forever remember when you first saw them.
